3.Domande frequenti

Quando si usa il Future Perfect?

Il Future Perfect si usa per un'azione che sarà conclusa prima di un certo momento futuro. Per esempio: «I will have finished the project by Friday». Si forma con will have + participio passato (past participle) e va spesso con by: by then, by next June, by the time you arrive. Può anche contare il tempo fino a un punto futuro («By December, she will have worked here for five years») o mostrare che sei sicuro che l'azione sarà conclusa: «He will certainly have left by the time we get there».

Future Perfect o Future Simple: «I will cook dinner» o «I will have cooked dinner»?

Sono corrette entrambe ma significano cose diverse: il Future Simple dice cosa succederà, il Future Perfect che a quel punto sarà già fatto. Confronta «When you get home, I will cook dinner» (comincio a cucinare dopo che arrivi) con «By the time you get home, I will have cooked dinner» (la cena è pronta quando arrivi). Con by si può usare anche il Future Simple («I will finish it by Friday»), ma il Future Perfect sottolinea che l'azione è completata.

Si può dire «She will has finished» nel Future Perfect?

No, si dice «She will have finished»: dopo will viene sempre have, con qualsiasi soggetto (subject), poi il participio passato (past participle). Dopo have non usare la forma in -ing né la forma base: «He will have completed it», non «He will have completing it» o «He will have complete it». I verbi irregolari vogliono la terza forma: «They will have gone», non «They will have went». Le negative usano won't have («They won't have arrived by noon») e nelle domande will va all'inizio: «Will she have finished by then?»

«By the time you arrive» o «by the time you will arrive» con il Future Perfect?

Si dice «by the time you arrive»: dopo by the time serve il Present Simple, e il Future Perfect va nella principale (main clause). Per esempio: «By the time you arrive, we will have eaten», non «By the time you will arrive, we will have eaten». In italiano diciamo «quando arriverai», con il futuro, ma in inglese will non va dopo by the time, before o when: «I will have left before you get there».

Future Perfect o Past Perfect: «will have finished» o «had finished»?

Usa il Future Perfect (will have finished) per guardare indietro da un momento futuro, e il Past Perfect (had finished) da un momento passato. Confronta «By next June, she will have finished her degree» (giugno deve ancora arrivare) con «By last June, she had finished her degree» (giugno è passato). Non mescolare le due forme: «She will had finished» è sbagliato. Will è sempre seguito da have.
