3.Domande frequenti

Per esempio: «I drink tea every morning» (abitudine), «I live near here» (situazione permanente), «Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius» (fatto) e «The plane departs at 12:30» (orario).

«I am agree» o «I agree»: quando si usano am/is/are e quando do/does nel Present Simple?

Am, is e are sono forme del verbo to be; gli altri verbi formano domande e negazioni del Present Simple con do o does. Allo stesso modo «I like pizza», non «I am like pizza», e «Do you like coffee?», non «Are you like coffee?»

Does he go o does he goes: qual è corretto nel Present Simple?

È corretto «Does he go?»: dopo does o doesn't il verbo principale (main verb) resta senza -s, perché does la porta già. Si dice «Where does she work?», non «Where does she works?», e «She doesn't like coffee», non «She doesn't likes coffee».

Si aggiunge -s o -es quando il soggetto (subject) è he, she, it o una sola persona o cosa: «He works», non «He work». Con I, you, we e they il verbo resta senza desinenza: «I work», «They work». Dopo -ch, -sh, -s, -x o -z si aggiunge -es («She watches TV»), e consonante + y diventa -ies («He studies»). Go, do e have diventano goes, does e has.

Si usa do o does con i verbi modali come can e must nel Present Simple?

No, i verbi modali (modal verbs) can, must e should non vogliono do o does: not va dopo il modale, che nelle domande va all'inizio. Si dice «He can't drive», non «He doesn't can drive», e «Can he swim?», non «Does he can swim?» In italiano «potere» si coniuga («lui può»), ma can non prende mai la -s, e il verbo che segue va senza to: «She can help you», non «She cans help you» o «She can to help you».
