3.Domande frequenti
Quando si usa il Future Simple (will) in inglese?
Il Future Simple (will + verbo) si usa per previsioni, decisioni prese mentre si parla, e promesse, offerte o richieste. Per esempio: «She's a good driver. She'll pass easily» (previsione basata su ciò che sai), «I'll call him now» (decisione del momento), «I'll pay you back on Friday» (promessa). Per i programmi già decisi, in inglese si usa di solito be going to o il Present Continuous: «I'm going to visit my aunt next week». In italiano il futuro («andrò») copre tutti questi casi, in inglese no.
Si dice «I think it will rain» o «I think it rains»?
Si dice «I think it will rain tomorrow»: dopo I think, I'm sure o I suppose, un fatto futuro vuole will. Lo stesso vale per probably e perhaps: «Perhaps he'll change his mind.» Con I hope invece vanno bene entrambe le forme: «I hope she gets the job» e «I hope she'll get the job». In italiano qui useresti il congiuntivo («spero che ottenga il lavoro»), ma in inglese basta il presente o will.
Future Simple: si dice «will go», «will to go» o «will going»?
Si dice «will go»: nel Future Simple, will è seguito dalla forma base del verbo (base form), senza to e senza desinenze. Si dice «She will help you», non «She will to help you», «She will helping you» o «She will helps you». Will è uguale per tutte le persone: «I will», «he will», «they will». La forma contratta è «'ll»: «I'll go». In italiano il futuro cambia con la persona (andrò, andrà), in inglese il verbo dopo will non cambia mai.
Future Simple negativo: «will not» o «not will»?
Si dice «will not», o nella forma contratta «won't»: nella frase negativa del Future Simple, not va dopo will e prima del verbo. In italiano il «non» sta prima del verbo («non lo dirò»), ma in inglese si dice «I won't tell anyone», non «I not will tell anyone». Nelle domande will va prima del soggetto (subject): «Will you help me?», «What will you do?»
Will o would: qual è la differenza?
Per il futuro si usa will, cioè il Future Simple: «I will help you tomorrow», non «I would help you tomorrow». Would non fa parte del Future Simple: si usa soprattutto per situazioni immaginate o legate a una condizione, spesso dove l'italiano usa il condizionale («ti aiuterei»): «I would help you, but I'm busy». Nelle richieste vanno bene entrambi: «Will you turn the music down?» e, un po' più cortese, «Would you turn the music down?»
