2.2Can See, Hear, Taste, Smell, Feel

Verbo Senza Progressive (generale) Con "Can" (in un momento preciso)
see I see a bird.
Vedo un uccello.
I can see a bird right now.
Vedo un uccello proprio adesso.
hear I hear music.
Sento della musica.
I can hear music playing right now.
Sento della musica in questo momento.
feel I feel the wind.
Sento il vento.
I can feel the wind on my face now.
Adesso sento il vento sul viso.
taste I taste salt.
Sento il sapore del sale.
I can taste salt in the soup now.
smell I smell flowers.
Sento profumo di fiori.
I can smell flowers in the garden now.
Adesso sento profumo di fiori in giardino.
understand I understand the problem.
Capisco il problema.
I can understand the problem now.
Adesso capisco il problema.
remember I remember her name.
Ricordo il suo nome.
I can remember her name now.
Adesso ricordo il suo nome.

3.Domande frequenti

Ne fanno parte know, believe, understand, like, want, prefer, belong, own, seem e contain. Si dice «I know the answer», non «I'm knowing the answer», e «This book belongs to me», non «This book is belonging to me».

Lo stesso vale per understand e believe: «Do you understand?», non «Are you understanding?».

è normale, ma in inglese «I'm thinking» indica il ragionare su qualcosa adesso: «I'm thinking about the problem». Lo stesso vale per have: «I have a car» (possesso), non «I'm having a car», ma «I'm having lunch» (sto pranzando) è corretto, perché è un'azione.

«I can hear» o «I'm hearing»: come si dice «sto sentendo» in inglese?

Allo stesso modo: «I can see a bird», «I can smell garlic», soprattutto nell'inglese britannico. Anche la forma senza can è corretta («I hear music in the distance»); la forma in -ing serve per un'azione voluta: «She is tasting the soup» (sta assaggiando).
